Hello, and welcome! I'm Prastowo Ismanto, an English teacher currently based at SMKN 1 Probolinggo, East Java, Indonesia. With years of experience teaching English at various schools, corporations and individuals, I've had the pleasure of helping people grow and open up new opportunities through English. My teaching journey through diverse educational environments has strengthened my belief in the transformative power of language.
Professional Background
Besides SMKN 1 Probolinggo, I’ve taught at several other institutions, including SMK Taman Siswa 1 Probolinggo, SMP Taruna Dra. Zulaeha, SMA Taruna Dra. Zulaeha, AMIK Taruna Leces Probolinggo, and SMK Sore. I also have corporate experience as a language trainer at PT. Eratex Jaya and PT. Jawa Lily Furniture, where I helped employees enhance their communication skills for a global workplace.
Outside of teaching, I work as a freelance translator for several prominent Indonesian companies, translating various publication content between English and Indonesian. This unique combination of teaching and real-world language application, backed by a strong foundation in English proficiency with a TOEFL score of 645 and a perfect TOEIC score of 990, enhances my approach to creating high-quality content that is practical, relevant, and reliable.
Blog Origin and Purpose
This blog, "Mister Guru," reflects my dedication and commitment to English learning. "Mister Guru" started its journey in 2007 under the name "English Craves," originally created to host practice exercises and interactive learning activities. In 2010, it was rebranded as "Mister Guru" and moved to a dedicated domain, www.misterguru.web.id.
The purpose of "Mister Guru" is to provide learners, educators, and English enthusiasts with accessible, high-quality resources. Whether you're studying grammar, practicing reading, or preparing for exams, this blog offers a range of tools to support and inspire your journey as a learner.
Achievements and Milestones
In June 2012, "Mister Guru" reached an exciting milestone as a finalist in the eCollegeFinder ESL (English as a Second Language) blog competition, in partnership with Language Magazine. Thanks to the support of readers, the blog achieved 8th place among hundreds of ESL blogs worldwide. This recognition reflects the dedication behind "Mister Guru" and its commitment to serving the learning community.
Goals and Vision
My goal with "Mister Guru" is to make English learning engaging, practical, and accessible to everyone, far beyond the walls of classrooms. I envision this blog as a welcoming, resource-rich platform where students, teachers, and lifelong learners alike can find practical tips, structured guides, and interactive tools to advance their English skills.
